A four-day-long harvest festival celebrated predominantly in Tamil Nadu, dedicated to the Sun God (Surya) and Lord Indra. Usually celebrated in mid-January, coinciding with the winter solstice as per the solar cycle. The third day is the main Pongal day, where a sweet dish of rice boiled in milk and jaggery is cooked in new earthen pots. Bhogi (day 1), Thiruvalluvar Day, and Mattu Pongal (celebration of cattle)
